Privacy Policy

BuildBoulder is a free community service created by Matt Benjamin, a Boulder City Council member, to help residents, homeowners, builders, and architects understand zoning and land use in Boulder. Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What We Collect

When you submit an address analysis request, we collect:

• Your name — so we can address our response to you
• Your email address — so we can send you the analysis
• The Boulder address you want analyzed — so we can run the analysis
• Your question or project description (optional) — so we can tailor the analysis to what you're trying to do

That's it. We don't use cookies, tracking pixels, or analytics tools. We don't collect browsing data. There are no ads.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used for one purpose: to generate and deliver your address analysis. Specifically:

1. Your form submission is received via Formspree (our form backend) and forwarded to our project email
2. An analysis is prepared using publicly available zoning data, Boulder's land use code, and the draft Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan
3. The completed analysis is emailed back to you

AI-Assisted Analysis

We believe in transparency about how this service works. BuildBoulder uses artificial intelligence tools to assist in generating address analyses. This includes:

• Pulling and interpreting zoning district data for your address
• Cross-referencing current code requirements against the comprehensive plan
• Identifying conflicts and possible paths forward

AI assists the process — it doesn't run it alone. Matt Benjamin oversees the service, reviews outputs, and ensures analyses are grounded in real code and plan language. If something doesn't look right in your report, tell us and we'll fix it.

Your personal information (name, email) is not used to train any AI models. It is used only to deliver your analysis.

Who Sees Your Data

• Matt Benjamin (service operator) — reviews submissions and oversees the analysis process
• Formspree — processes your form submission (their privacy policy)
• Google Gmail — delivers the response email (their privacy policy)
• Netlify — hosts this website (their privacy policy)

We do not share, sell, or provide your information to:

• The City of Boulder or any government agency
• Developers, contractors, or real estate companies
• Advertisers or data brokers
• Any other third party

Data Retention

We retain your submission data for up to 90 days after delivering your analysis. This allows us to follow up if you have questions and to improve the quality of future analyses. After 90 days, your submission data is deleted.

You can request deletion of your data at any time — just email us and we'll remove it promptly.

Your Rights

You can:

• Request a copy of any data we have about you
• Request deletion of your data at any time
• Ask questions about how your data is handled

We'll respond within 5 business days.
